It is a tedious task, but luckily you already know about the 404 error package and how it aids in simplifying this task.  What my friend did was more than time-consuming, but he made sure every blog stuck by having each of his old links re-direct directly to his new url for that particular blog post.  Yeah imagine doing that over 400 times!  I hope you find success with the 404 package.  Have a great weekend!
